Atomfall Review: “this Isn’t British Fallout It’s Something Much Better Than That”

This follow-up from Arrowhead slot gacor hari ini Game Studios was a surprising success, not least because it was so different from the original game that inspired it. Helldivers 2 takes the hordes of enemies from the top-down first game and makes it a third-person shooter, and the new perspective works beautifully. Squadding up with your friends leads to tense survival moments and hilarious mishaps in equal measure as you fulfill objectives and call down Stratagems on your foes. And like the first game, there’s a galaxy-sprawling meta-game at play, as you and every other Helldiver fights to free territory controlled by vicious bugs and robots. This was also a rare Sony Interactive game published simultaneously on PC alongside its PS5 release, with optional cross-play, which likely helped it find and sustain an active player base. It’s a dangerous journey filled with devious monsters and trauma.

The Douglas character, named Nicholas Van Orton, is surrounded by employees who are almost paralyzed by his rigid demands on them. “I have an Elizabeth on line three,” says one secretary, and then a second later adds, “Your wife, sir.” “I know,” he says coldly. We have the feeling that if the second secretary had not spoken, he would have replied, “Elizabeth who? It is, in fact, his ex-wife; at age 48, Van Orton lives alone in the vast mansion where his father committed suicide at the same age.

And if the original release whets your appetite for more, developer Color Gray games has spun off additional “Golden Idol Mysteries” DLC–new stories and mysteries with the same narrative-building mechanic. One of the most original games of recent memory, Before Your Eyes has a simple premise that hinges on your ocular organs controlling the entire experience through a webcam. It’s a short jaunt of a game that chronicles the life of a recently deceased person that you play as, but the catch here is that every time you blink, time moves forward. It’s a terrific idea, incredibly well-implemented, and ties in perfectly with themes of memories, life, and storing those precious moments within ourselves.

Capcom approached this remake especially cautiously, giving it a light touch of upgrades that make the whole experience feel modern without losing its soul. It’s also never looked more beautiful, so you can see the horrific monstrosities of Las Plagas with newfound fidelity. When it comes to writing, Disco Elysium is perhaps unrivaled.

Arizona Sunshine Remake Review

Atomfall is a gripping survival-action adventure that takes some of the best elements of Fallout and Elden Ring, and synthesises them into its own fresh mutation. It presents a picturesque chunk of English countryside littered with alluring structures to pique and reward your curiosity, eccentric locals to meet, and absorbing mysteries to unravel, and uses classic iconography from British sci-fi and horror to consistently unsettling effect. In spite of some enemy behaviours that are occasionally less stable than a reactor in meltdown, Atomfall is a compelling, post-apocalyptic survival story that satisfyingly bends to your choices and discoveries no matter which direction you take. I enjoyed consistently sniping from the shadows, although it must be said that Atomfall’s stealth system doesn’t feel quite as adaptable as that of developer Rebellion’s own Sniper Elite series. Nor can you craft a smoke bomb to mask your escape from an area, as far as I can tell – although admittedly I can’t be completely sure about that. Given how much Atomfall loves to tuck secrets into almost every dark corner of its world, there’s every chance that there’s a smoke bomb recipe clenched in a corpse’s hand at the bottom of a mineshaft somewhere that I haven’t stumbled upon yet after over a dozen hours.

You can also complete quests for the townsfolk, which will earn you money … Little Lighthouse of Horror isn’t your typical jump-scare horror game. Instead, it offers a slow burn, a creeping dread that seeps into your bones as you manage the dwindling resources of a lonely lighthouse keeper.
